Do Not load Additional Internet Browser Toolbars
One cause of slowed internet access is the use of extra toolbars in the internet browser. These may look enticing at first when you are offered a free Yahoo toolbar, Google toolbar or some similar set up that seems to be helpful. These may actually be adding processing time to your internet use and slowing the whole thing down by transmitting and receiving data constantly. Do you really need a weather toolbar bar? An international time and date bar? Are you really using that extra EBay search box?
What is even worse is the multitude of toolbars that may install themselves without your input at all. These are usually related to Malware, and may steal information from you, or load programs to run in the background while you are online. Some of these nasty toolbars are unable to be deleted or stopped from running. It will take a good anti-spyware or malware program to root them out.
Here is the basic lowdown on ridding yourself of unwanted toolbars.
In Windows, go to Control Panel, Add or Remove Programs. Here you will see a list of all installed programs, and can delete the unwanted toolbars. Once again if it is a malware tool you are trying to eliminate it may not let you run the Add or Delete Programs function at all. In some instances it will lock down anything until you pay a fee online. Don’t be held hostage by this activity. Use your anti-virus program to seek out and destroy this toolbar and its’ related program installations. You can download an anti-malware or anti-spyware program from the net to combat this as well. Seek out one that has a good reputation on software review sites. If you are unable to stop the Malware toolbar activity, you can try using a Task Manager and stop processes one by one until you stop the toolbar. If all else fails, a professional may need to be called in for help.
Check your browser for unnecessary toolbars and cruise the web more speedily and safely.
